Job Title: Enterprise Architect

Job Location: TX - Houston
Job Description:

Spanish speaking (a big plus) Houston based architect with good knowledge of 
mining domain who should be able to travel to Santiago as required. It’s for a new 
program they are running to develop a production management system.

The Business Systems Americas Architect’s primary role will be to provide 
architecture oversight for the design and implementation of Business Systems 
platforms.  Specifically, platforms that support the Copper and Potash mining 
• Serves as the primary point of contact within the Enterprise Architecture function 
for Business Systems platform architecture
• Develops and maintains the Business Systems platform current and future state 
architecture and roadmap 
• Drives change toward the future state architecture in alignment with Business and 
Technology strategy
• Advises the Business Systems function on all key platform standards and best 
practices, existing capabilities, and emerging technologies
• It is a primary requirement that employees comply with the BHP Billiton 
Sustainable Development Policy and HSEC Management Standards and Guidelines, 
Guide to Business Conduct, and the Production Unit Standards and Procedures.

• Works with the Copper and Potash Business Systems delivery teams to solve 
complex application and integration problems and aligning activities across all 
Enterprise Systems functions
• Maintain relationships with strategic vendors to understand offerings and vendor 
• Reviews and approves new and existing program/project architectures related to 
the platform
• Communicates platform standards and policies to all levels in the organization
• Lead the architecture efforts for and regional implementation of Business Systems 
• Work with Systems Integration Architect on platform integration with various 
disparate systems (SAP/Production Systems)
• Work with Enterprise Data Architect on any activity involving data architecture 
(defining data models, information flows, information taxonomies, cataloging of terms, 
• Manage the design of the platform by jointly working with technical leads to analyze 
requirements, authoring architecture diagrams, developing specifications, and 
mapping system capabilities to requirements
• Documents and manages any exceptions to enterprise systems architecture 
• Supports and participates in process and data governance
• Ensures that project documentation captures architecturally significant decisions
• Ensures that function architectural governance is a consistent and transparent 
• Chairs or participates on steering committees for all relevant projects
• Works closely with Planning & PMO to ensure solution architecture process and 
aligned with PMO phases
• Works closely with technical computing on infrastructure design, innovation, and 
platform performance
• Takes responsibility for technology evaluations and proofs of concept

The Business Systems Enterprise Architect role will be expected to liaise and 
coordinate with the following roles as required.

• Key vendors / externals SMEs in respective functional area 

Educational Qualifications
• Bachelor degree is required
• A qualification in mining technology and TOGAF certification
Experience and Technical Competencies
• A minimum of 15 years relevant professional experience, with a minimum of 5 
years experience in minerals & resources 
• Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and ISA-95 framework
• Experience with Solutions Architecture development methods
• Ability to lead and work effectively in a diverse and globally dispersed virtual team 
environment, guiding and supporting team members 
• Strong business relationship management skills 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present and discuss 
technical information to a business audience and technology audience
• Builds highly cohesive teams with high energy levels and constructive, positive 
• Familiarity with technologies tailored to the copper mining business (Honeywell 
PHD, Maptek Vulcan, Motion Metrics Fragmatics, Aquila, Mining DISPATCH 
• Ability to manage strategies, methods and tools needed to store, preserve and 
deliver information (structured, semi-structured and unstructured) to support 
organization processes
• Proficient in automation technologies and historian technology (Rockwell 
automation, OSISoft PI)
Ability to enforce structure and discipline but remain flexible to situational priorities 
and provide timely decision making Languages: English required, Spanish desired
